There is this thing in chess call hope chess where you play a move or an opening that is dubious if your opponent knows how to refute it but if they dont it gives you a big advantage. You're trying your luck on if your opponent knows how to refute it or not.

Its no way near as complex as AW rolls strats units etc are thow.

War is not always predictable. I have won and lost based on extreme rolls.
