This is now possible but clans seem to be unable to agree on maps that can be used... Any Ideas?

Ezzatam coalition war in custom map is good idea but people will need long time to learn all the tips that are necessary to play like in default map.
Is a bit soon to think about this.

Incoming wall of text.

I'm seeing an increasing number of 5k Middle Earth team games, but it doesn't have air units, removing an aspect of the game (Don't get me wrong, I love the map, but it doesn't test skill as well without air). Space maps are just out of the question due to being too different and too big. Utah's maps, Talos's maps, and most of your maps are far too big, but I did notice you created presets for certain regions of your map, which might help a little. Of your maps, Japan, UK, and regions of China would probably be most suitable.

See, the problem is, people play Europe because it's just so strangely shaped. It's got high income peninsula in the north, an easily defended island in the NW, strange naval action going on in the north, south, and east, and lots of land based small scale combat in the center and east. Every kind of skill is tested in Europe; I have yet to see this much variety in any custom map, and most custom maps based off of the real world, such as yours and utah's, show incredible imbalance in income. This isn't a bad thing; London by all means should have more income and troops than the surrounding countries. It's just not a great show of skill when picking London or near it in a team game means insta-win.

So right now, I think the best candidates in terms of of variety and nuances would be Pulse's Song of Ice and Fire (made better if there was a preset with just Westeros) and avatar's cln wars map, which would be hilarious to play CWs on.

To preserve competitiveness the default map must be used. All candidate custom maps will not become the status quo because that would require every CW-able person in a clan to learn every trick of the new map. I doubt there is any map that has had it's very functions exposed to such a level as Europe+, and I doubt there ever will be.

It'll be enjoyable to watch someone else flounder and fall during one of these games. However I won't be playing a clan war of any sort on any custom map unless the odds are obviously in my favor.

The rest, Mathdino has stated above.

Explain your argument.

EU+ has been the most played map because of it's diversity of all the default maps. It's not subject to random change not sanctioned by the administrators, so it's very stability is assured. Europe as a battle ground also makes it ideal because most people have knowledge of the map even before people have played it. It's small enough that battles don't last for too long, and it's income is concentrated enough that most strategies are viable depending on the country choice.

Again, Mathdino has explained most of that, and more.

Of course, current custom maps are not good to competitions, the solution is to make "zones".
Each zone should have the same number of countries (and maybe cities), income and reinforcements, to reduce to the maximum the advantages and disadvantages of the geography...
Im trying to do something like this.
I already have many concepts of how to do this, tomorrow i will try to make the first map (those maps are easy to make, they are going to be like the fast food of Custom map).
Those maps will be of low quality in design, but focused in the gameplay.

No doubt a map like this will require skill, the ability to abuse every possible bug or glitch to win, and pretty intense concentration. Afterwind is designed to not have a grid-like play, and though you may attempt to make a slightly diverse map(with zones), you still might as well go play Chess.

I look forward to your creations, or the creations of others with the same idea. Good luck.

Just to respond as well, I do like the new updates and new maps.

What I'm saying is; I don't think using maps that are not known to every player, and are subject to change, is a level playing field.

My 0.02, which will undoubtedly get flamed:

Europe+ is a terrible choice to test skill, exactly because it's so well known. It's practically cookie cutter on which countries you need to pick, which strats you need to choose, and what moves you need to make in turns 1, 2, and ....

The new maps - precisely because they're relatively unknown - will test your skill and how well you can adapt to new situations.

That's how you define a good player. Not someone who can win a map because they've played it so many times that the moves become mindless routine.

Also, some of the custom maps level the playing field between the high and low ranks. Take Talos' Middle Earth game, as an example. No air units, no submarines, no generals, etc. Relatively few upgrades will work in this scenario. Most of the upgrades available in this game are therefore available to new as well as experienced players (read: those who have less/ more SP).

The problem in the standard world games is that the high ranks sometimes win just because they have better, faster, more toys - not because they're inherently better than a rank 5.

So some of the custom maps take away the toys and bring the gameplay back closer to pure skill. And since high ranked players always assume they're inherently better than a lower ranked player, I dont understand the aversion to playing maps that are 'unknown'.

Prove yourself.

Of all the maps I've played so far, the only one that seems worthy of cw is the song of ice and fire... The problem is its size and the cheap countries

Also most of the new maps have lots of really small countries, and almost no big countries like classic turkey/uk/germany. So I'd rather keep cw's in the classic eu+ way so far.

The map "cln wars" from avatar has also potential.

it just must be made a bit more balanced. The size of the map is already ok. Its a bit bigger than EU+

Yes, he actually added 27 reinfs to his clan and that's too much, it's like Dalmati or Empire SRB. I think Bite me Too is dead, the players are not updated and if zoom, the borders are horrible.
