CK2 isn't that confusing if you really try to get into it, I'd recommend playing as Mercia for your first game. You can easily overpower your southern neighbours, form the Kingdom of England, gift money and vassalize nearby lords. Then you just keep going from that, it's almost too easy since nobody can really reach your island. As long as you have a sizeable kingdom by 880 you're totally safe for another 2-300 years.
The problem is that having to continously deal with the same problems every time your ruler dies is annoying, which makes me play until I'm #1 in the world and then quit(Usually corresponds to never going farther than the 1080's)

>combat system V2
>good
[rant]
The V2 combat system itself isn't horrible, but the way it's handled in terms of manpower and AI is horrible.
I mean, if you engage the AI defensively at one point of the line, watch them continously stack more and more units into the battle until they have none left in the rest of the country. Then just move auxiliary armies around the province, and, BOOM! You just crushed a GP!
And the pop system is seriously annoying with all these brigades disbanding suddenly. The only real solution here is to make soldier pops contributors to a manpower value which determines the kind of army you can have, like EU4 and HOI3. It's so annoying when you've nicely organized your army into 22 divisions of 30k each and then those weaker pops start breaking under the strain of battle and the whole organization is ruined ;_;
I want to see a more HOI3-esque system. I have yet to see the AI make a push at more than three locations at the same time, even if its Russia in 1910 that has well over 300 brigades, 500+ if mobilized. They will never push towards the weakest links of my line, instead they will just derp off and do completely retarded and unrealistic things like taking a 33k stack, and even though I occupy MOSCOW they won't do shit towards it and instead march straight to berlin losing 95% of their army to attrition. For gods sake Russia, you had fucking 150k+ units on the border, why didn't you just try to overwhelm the weak part of the line in the Donbass you megalithical retard?!?
And this also applies to the AI. When I call an AI nation to war to aid me, they never join a battle with me and all I have to do is cover them as they retreat. They have no knowledge of that when a front is too large and the enemy still has forces, you stabilize the front and do NOT do a deathmarch to the urals to be surrounded and beat to death by those apatethic 150k soldiers.
[/rant]
I got off a lot of my anger there.

victoria is brilliant, just one problem - when at last you get a meaningful growth it's the end of time

you can't really play for the long term in undeveloped countries

There is one undeveloped nation that can rise to the skies(haha, get it) - Japan. Apart from that, as China things are pretty much over if you lose the Opium wars, which is inevitable. All the other uncivs are at the level of playing Frankfurt am Main and they will all be annexed someday by the Europeans, except maybe Siam.
Don't even get me started on how useless the African uncivs actually are.

>victoria 2 combat good
>i picked prussia on my first try and annexed all of europe.

>picked CSA on my second time, lost, played again and annihilated the USA

>picked japan, conquered asia on my first try.

Nah man, Vicky has a simple combat system. Its the pop system that i like

Played Hoi3, but didn't liked it much.
Played Darkest Hour and Hoi2, found them to be extremely fun (specially the WW1 and Kaiserreich scenarios)
Played Hoi4, I like it so far (minus the tech, chain of command and conference systems)

CK2 is my favorite paradox game.

Eu3 was fun
Eu4 is 6/10 if you don't Roleplay (i don't)

Stellaris is a mixed potato, could be fun if they fix some minor annoyances and with a good MP group.
